GASTÃO MARIA CABRAL DA CUNHA FERREIRA
    ARCHITECT | LISBON | 1950
Managing Partner of Cunha Ferreira Arquitectos Lda.

    ABOUT

In Portugal, until 1975, he worked in the studios of architect Sena da Silva, architect António Teixeira Guerra, MC Arquitectos, and architect Carlos Ramos. In Brazil, he worked with architect Luiz Paulo Conde in Rio de Janeiro and with architect Joaquim Guedes in São Paulo.

In 1980, he joined the Architecture, Urbanism, and Planning Office (GAUP), and in 1983, he founded GF arquitectos, Lda. He was also a partner at IMPARQUE S/C Lda and Intermart S/C Lda Viability and Design Consultants, carrying out projects in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Panama.

In 1986, he returned to Portugal and rejoined MC Arquitectos as a partner alongside Manuel Alzina de Menezes and Erich Corsépius.

He has applied his experience as a designer to teaching and training, particularly in professional and cultural initiatives and at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon.

His experience in project work—as a principal designer or co-designer and as the lead for design, coordination, and management—ranges from comprehensive planning of new urban districts to the design of large-scale, complex buildings, such as airports, hospitals, administrative buildings, and multi-purpose facilities, among others.

His academic background includes the General Management Program at Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1991.

His professional activities include consulting, as well as the design, coordination, and management of projects; he has extensive experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams on building and urban planning projects.

He has held and continues to hold leadership and management positions in professional associations (Portuguese Association of Designers and Consultants 2001/2001, Association of Portuguese Urban Planners 2008/2014) and non-professional organizations (Luso-Brazilian Foundation 1993/2003, Architects’ Golf Club since 2004), as well as administrative roles, in Portugal and Brazil.

With a particular interest in golf, he has coordinated several projects related to the sport and serves as an advisor to the Portuguese Golf Federation; he is a founding member of the Arquitectos Golf Club, where he has held leadership positions.

He has been a consultant with CBA Cross Border Associates since October 2014, specializing in architecture and major projects.
